High Temperature Mica Gaskets

Mica gasket material is exceptional in it resistance to high heat hence serving as an excellent alternative in these high temperature (to 1800 F) applications. Presence of oxygen doesn't fail a gasket made of Mica because of this property. For more details on Mica, visit our post "Mica - What Is It." .

Mica comes in multiple forms.1) Laminated (2) Flexible and Rigid. Laminated Mica and tanged Stainless Steel combination is a premium grade material for higher pressures. It can also be combined with a polymer by heat treatment to create a Flexible Mica sheet. The best mica chosen depends on your application. Mica Gaskets are commonly produced by cutting from Mica sheet. Two basic forms of mica that are prevalent are Phlogopite mica and Muscovite mica.

The required compression for your Cut Gaskets will depend many factors including:

1)Mica Gasket Surface area
2)Pressure being sealed by Mica.
3)Size of bolts (assuming bolts are being used)
4)Number of bolts
5)Condition of the bolts
6)Lubrication on the bolts

Applications of MICA in various industries include but not limited to:

Use in paints as a pigment extender and also helps to brighten the tone of colored pigments
In the electrical industry the same as thermal insulation, and electrical insulators in electronic equipment
Used in toothpaste and cosmetics due to its shiny and glittery appearance.
The high thermal resistance allows it to be used as an insulator in various electronics.
MICA SHIELDS or Gauge Glass Mica can be used to secure the liquid level gauges from corrosive and acidic solutions.
Use in the area of hot gases specifically fuel gas, exhaust fumes, thermal processes.
Combustion plants and motors.
Non-metallic gaskets for pipeline flanges, device and container flanges.
Supports for heating resistors (i.e. convectors).
Thermal insulation in circuit breakers and between electronic components.
In large thickness, as thermal insulators for industries with large stress such as iron and steel works, chemical, glass and petro-chemical industries
Mechanical support and electrical insulator in high voltage cabins
Replacements for asbestos panels in forging machines and hydraulic presses
Automotive (exhaust manifolds)
Fuel cells; gas turbines & turbo generators.
It can also be used as filler for spiral wound gaskets or as a material for cam profile gaskets.
