Types of Flanges - Flange Gaskets

Types of Flanges - Flange GasketsFlange gaskets are an integral part of many industries to create a static seal between two flanges faces, at various operating conditions, with varied pressure and temperature conditions. Delhi based New Age Gaskets has been supplying high temperature and high pressure flange gaskets to various industries in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal and other states in North India. We have already read the basics about flanges in our earlier post stating what are flanges and their basic applications. Let’s have an idea of types of flanges in this post.

A typical flanged connection has three parts:

Pipe Flanges
Gasket
Bolting

Depending upon the piping system and intended usage, choice of flanges differs in order to ensure reliable operation and a long service life, as flanges are not a one-type-fits-all sort of solution. The most commonly used flange types are -

Welding Neck Flange
Slip On Flange
Socket Weld Flange
Lap Joint Flange
Threaded Flange
Blind Flange

Other than the above, following are special flanges for particular requirements -

Orifice Flanges
Long Welding Neck Flanges
Weldoflange / Nipoflange
Expander Flange
Reducing Flange

Flanges, both the fittings and pipes can be made of varied materials like stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, bronze, plastic etc; forged carbon steel with machined surfaces being the most common.

Speaking about the flange gaskets in Rajasthan, mainly 3 types can be spoken of -

Non metallic gaskets are used with flat-face and raised-face flanges in low Pressure applications.

Semi-metallic gaskets serve in almost all operating conditions, high-temperature and high pressure applications and are the choice for raised face, male-and-female, and tongue-and-groove flanges.

Metallic flange gaskets are the choice with special, accompanying flanges we stated above. This combination ensures reliable sealing when correct choice of profiles and material is made.
